Heritage Insurance (HRTG) insures homes and residential buildings across coastal U.S. states.
Its June renewal lowered the annual cost of reinsurance, which helps cover large claims, by $63.2 million. Only one month of those savings reached second-quarter results. It also began writing commercial coverage in Texas.
With a market cap of approximately $1.1 billion, HRTG trades at approximately 6x annualized first-half reported profit. Lower estimates for older claims boosted that profit, and hurricane losses can reverse it. Its next quarterly report could draw attention to further reinsurance savings. Shares rose approximately 20% from the August 5 close to October 14. Storm claims and pricing competition remain risks.
Opinion: HRTG appears potentially undervalued if lower reinsurance costs sustain residential-insurance profits through its next quarterly report.
